A star (Saturn Skin) was born:

To set the scene, it’s the holidays. I’m stressed thinking about gifts, menus, decorations, meeting up with friends and family. My poor dad asks what he thinks is a simple and innocent question: “what skincare do I need?” My chest tightens because this is indeed, not a simple nor quick question. The man has never had a skincare routine in his life and this was about to become an entire consultation.

He hands me his phone and asks me to look through the cart that he already started putting together. I’m scrolling through – extreme multitasking this, viking and sport (?) scented that, everything is whiskey and red and ninjas and machine guns, and GRR SO MANLY. Men were working with an abysmal selection of skincare and grooming products that didn’t really fit the needs of a real guy, but more so a caricature of a guy from a 2000s sport movie.

Then, my high school-aged brother asks me something similar. He says he and all his friends are getting into skincare, but from what I can gather, they’re buying whatever their girlfriends tell them to get (I’ve been on her end before!). 

I thought to myself, there is a real need here for bringing the luxury and generosity of women’s products, combined with education and routine. I have friends who are stepping into board meetings desperate for something to combat their dry skin. I have my dad who works in the trades that wants something that repairs but doesn’t feel like extra work or something really sitting on his face. I have my brother and his friends who are athletes and want to throw a product into their bag without worry of it shattering.

All that to say, Saturn Skin was created to disrupt the norms in men’s skincare and personal grooming. We’re creating something indulgent but pragmatic for men who want guilt-free, safety in routine.They want products that fit into an active lifestyle. They are open to routine and education/instruction. And more importantly, they want to be a part of a community. Masculinity is not one size fits all. It’s dynamic and so are we, which is why we make products not for the caricature guy, but for the real one - whoever that may be. We’re on a mission to bring better skin for all mankind.
